Through our Six Sigma Program 108 students have completed an impressive 96 projects so far, We’ve improved 18 University Departments and 4 local businesses.
Local businesses included the Polynesian Cultural Center, DaKine Wireless, North Shore Surf School, and Gunstock Ranch. Also with his Six Sigma training, one student in Hong Kong has started his own IT consulting business and another student in Mongolia is currently teaching Six Sigma to small and medium enterprises.
We’ve applied Six Sigma in our BYUH Copy Center, reducing inventory by 80% , increasing sales XX%. Another project helped our Housing Department save $80,000 just by changing the showerheads from a 2 gallon to a 1.5 gallon capacity.
Another example of how we applied Lean Six Sigma was in our campus eatery, the Seasider. From our customer survey we devoted our time in providing much needed training in customer service and the Five S philosophy. We’ve reduced their inventory, increased communication, and dramatically reduced waste.
We trained 33 of their employees, impacting 7,400 people and saved the Seasider $50,000 over the cost they currently pay a consultant. Service hours performed were 480 on this project alone.
