Hospitality and Tourism Management
The Marriott Center for Hospitality and Tourism Management is designed to prepare students for positions of responsibility in hotels, resorts, food service operations, cruise ships, clubs cultural and recreational attractions, convention and visitors bureaus, and tourism development agencies. The hospitality, tourism, and travel industries are the largest industry and employer in the world economy and the primary industry in most of the Pacific Rim. There is a continuing and growing demand in this industry for persons with a broad range of academic and professional skills.
The program applies the general principles of the fundamental and advanced business core to a specific industry. Close ties with the Polynesian Cultural Center provide students in this program with a unique opportunity to study and analyze one of the most successful tourist attractions in the world. To earn a bachelors degree, you must complete a departmental core, before pursuing a program track in either Hospitality or Tourism Management..
The department also offers a minor designed to allow other disciplines across the campus to explore an industry where their skills and interest might be well utilized.
BUSINESS CORE
Students must acquire a "common body of knowledge" in business. The guidelines provided by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) are used as a basis for identifying the courses included in the "Business Core" at BYU-H.
